The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the head of the delegation of the Supreme Council for the referendum in the Kurdistan region, Roh Nuri Shaways, said Tuesday that the delegation, which is currently visiting Baghdad to raise the issue of the referendum on the Iraqi parties has refused to postpone the date of the referendum scheduled for 25 September.
"We held a meeting with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, which lasted for three hours, and we discussed many issues related to resolving the outstanding problems between Erbil and the federal government," Shaways told a news conference.
He added that "dialogue and negotiations is the best way to solve the problems, and the parties insisted on not to put any preconditions during the meetings, and we can say that it was a positive meeting."
As for the position of international embassies in Iraq, which was visited today by the delegation of Kurdistan, said Shaways, "All the embassies that we have visited welcomed the visit of the Kurdish delegation to Baghdad, and stressed the need for dialogue and understanding to solve the problems, expressing their willingness to help make a success These dialogues, and we in turn explained to them the reason for our approach to the referendum on the independence of the Kurdistan region. "
The head of the delegation of the Supreme Council for the referendum in the Kurdistan region, that "the Kurdish areas that fall outside the administration of the region will participate in the referendum process," explaining that "the delegation has refused to postpone the date of the referendum scheduled to be held on the twenty-fifth of September, The people of Kurdistan, and the largest part of it now demands to conduct it on schedule and not to postpone it. "
On Monday, a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan region arrived in Baghdad to discuss the issue of holding an independence referendum with federal government officials and hold its first meeting with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
The delegation met with US Ambassador to Baghdad Douglas Suleiman on Tuesday morning, followed by a visit to the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad, where he was received by Ambassador Irj Masjidi. He also visited the Turkish Embassy in Baghdad, in addition to meeting with the head of the National Alliance, And will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, with the leader of a coalition of state law, Nuri al-Maliki.
"We met yesterday with the delegation and there was a frank and deep dialogue on the outstanding issues, including the old since the previous regime and the other unconstitutional constitutional, and we agreed to preserve the unity of Iraq, stressing the joint cooperation between Baghdad and the region and the priority of cooperation in the fight against.
"We confirm that we respect the aspiration of the Kurds to have a state, but there is a constitution and one country and the participants and if there is a desire to re-demarcation of the border must not be one-sided and say that the result will come tragedies with the existence of complex and common files."
