Claims for the development of productive sectors on the anniversary of Labor Day

The General Federation of Trade Unions of Iraq called on Tuesday for the development of productive sectors and rehabilitation of state institutions and the protection of local production, calling for the acceleration of the issuance of a new law for retirement and social security of workers in accordance with international labor standards.

In a statement on the occasion of the Labor Day, Al-Mabrad said that the importance of continuing pressure and escalating public demands to restructure the structure of the Iraqi economy and diversify the national production base by strengthening and developing the productive sectors in industry, agriculture, construction, services and modernization and development of infrastructure.

The Federation stressed that it is necessary to rehabilitate state institutions, support private sector service and produce and protect domestic production from competition through the application of customs tariff laws and consumer protection and oblige state institutions to purchase products of these companies.

He added that the General Union includes its voice to the labor and union votes demanding tirelessly repeal of the Sadami resolution No. 150 of 1987 and the unjust law 52 of 1987, and the right of organization and activity of trade unionists in all projects and production and service institutions, calling for the acceleration of the issuance of a new law for retirement and social security of workers according to International Labor Standards and the adoption of the Law on Trade Rights and Freedoms in accordance with International Labor Standards after Iraq's ratification of its accession to the 1987 Convention.
