The new Iraqi government will face major challenges, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, noting that by electing Saleh as president and appointing Adel Abdul Mahdi as prime minister, they are trying to show that it will be the beginning of change.

"Recent developments in Iraq through the election of President Barham Saleh and the appointment of Adel Abdul Mahdi to form a government represent an attempt to end the political crisis in the country," the newspaper said in a report.

She added that "Abdul Mahdi and Saleh are considered veterans of the veteran politicians in the post-Saddam Hussein."

"People deserve to be represented by a better group of politicians and leaders," said Salih, who holds a doctorate from Britain. "For the first time since 2005, the prime minister is not a member of the Dawa party."

"Abdul Mahdi and Saleh are facing major challenges, including the rebuilding of dilapidated cities, the development of public service infrastructure, and the integration of militias formed to fight an oppressive organization," she said.

"With the election of Saleh as president and the appointment of Abd al-Mahdi as head of the ministry, they are trying to show that it will be the beginning of change," the paper quoted the Iraqi analyst at the London-based Titam House Center as saying.

"Investors in Iraq who have suffered, say they all hope that a government will be formed quickly so that construction can start in the country," she said.
