[Asharq Al-Awsat] After the resumption of the special session headed by Salim al-Jubouri, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the parliament ended its reading of the proposal of the third amendment law to the law of elections of the House of Representatives No. 45 of 2013.

At the beginning of the session, Jabouri stressed the right of the House of Representatives to hold an extraordinary session in accordance with the powers granted to the presidency of the Council, noting that the special session aimed at correcting the electoral process and the mistakes.

The Council read the first reading of the proposed amendment to the third law of the elections of the Council of Representatives No. 45 of 2013 submitted by the Legal Committee in view of the legal and technical violations that marred the electoral process that took place on 12/5/2018 and to protect the democratic process to ensure confidence in the fairness of the elections and fairness and to enable the Commission to count And manual counting, after which it was decided to resume the session on Saturday 2/6/2018.

The Iraqi parliament, whose mandate is about to be finalized, convened in an extraordinary session on Monday to discuss the election file, calling on all parties concerned to take the means to restore confidence in the elections.

Eighty-five deputies submitted a request two weeks ago to hold a hearing to discuss what they said was the rigging of a young voter on May 12, in preparation for a vote to cancel the election results.

A parliamentary source told Ashqaf News that the decision of the session of the House of Representatives takes the degree of "recommendation", stressing that "non-binding."

He added that "Law No. 45 on the elections of the House of Representatives is valid and can not be higher than the law and objections to the results can be submitted as appeals to the Electoral Judicial Court in accordance with the provisions of the law."

Several political figures have already issued accusations of election fraud, including National Alliance leader Iyad Allawi, who called for the cancellation of the results, accusing the Electoral Commission of committing "atrocities and scandals" during the running of the ballot.

It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers decided last Thursday to form a committee of judicial institutions and security and oversight to study appeals, stressing the granting of the right of access to all the documents relating to the elections.
