A senior committee headed by the Central Bank to consider dealing with US sanctions against Iran

    Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced on Tuesday the formation of a higher committee headed by the Central Bank to consider dealing with US sanctions against Iran.

    "We have formed a supreme committee to consider the economic sanctions against Iran and how to deal with them and we have a vision to deal with them, and we are not part of the sanctions on the countries because the siege harms the citizens," Abadi said at his weekly televised press conference.

    "We are committed to protecting our country and our people and we do not want to hurt our people and benefit others."

    Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said Tuesday that Iraq is not with economic sanctions against any country and this is his strategic position.

    The government plans to send a delegation to the United States for an understanding on financial transactions with Iran, Abadi said at his weekly news conference.

    "We welcome the existence of any cooperation between us and neighboring countries in the field of local currencies, and we do not want global domination that controls the economies of countries and we are not against a certain state, but we are looking for the interests of our people," he said.
