A senior Iraqi official in Baghdad has revealed that the government committee, which is scheduled to hold talks with the US side in Washington, to exclude Baghdad from Washington sanctions imposed on Tehran, will include agents of ministers, advisers and representatives of the central bank.
The official, who declined to be named, said that if the Americans can not be persuaded there are options that have already been put on the Iranians, most notably the euro or local currency in both countries.
This comes after the announcement of Prime Minister Haider Abadi, during a press conference held yesterday in Baghdad, that "Iraq will not be part of the sanctions on any country in the world, but it will abide by in order to preserve his interests."
Abadi stressed that the competent authorities in Iraq will search for solutions and treatments, and obtain exemptions from them from Washington, pointing to the proximity of an Iraqi delegation to the United States to negotiate with the Americans on Iraq's position on sanctions against Iran.
He pointed out that the Iraqi delegation will provide the American side with a clear vision regarding matters that require continued engagement with Iran, stressing that the most prominent of these things is the file of gas and electricity.
"The government has already started naming members of a special committee to leave for the United States and meet with officials there," the official said. "The committee will try to obtain an American exemption, especially with respect to important goods. There are contracts and financial commitments that must be made."
He added that if the committee failed and insisted the Obama administration, Iraq will find itself in front of other options we will put on the Iranians officially, including dealing with the euro, and this should be coordinated by the Iranians with the European Union first and foremost, and if this can be dealt with local currencies Iraqi dinar and Iranian Toman , Which Tehran may not want, as it serves Iraq more than their point of view. "
The former Iraqi parliament member of the coalition of state law, Abdul Hadi al-Hassani said that the crisis between the Americans and the Iranians have left Iraq in great embarrassment, explaining that any position taken by Iraq for the benefit of any party, will make him lose the other side.
"Iraq can not act in isolation from regional and international influences," he said, stressing that sanctions on Iran, the continuation of the war in Syria and instability in several Arab countries are directly affecting Iraq, which is suffering from an internal crisis.
