Planning Iraq's vision for sustainable development is discussed before the United Nations

The Ministry of Planning discussed Iraq's vision for sustainable development 2030 in light of the 17 UN goals to achieve sustainable development in the world by combating poverty, protecting vulnerable groups, combating climate variability and preserving the environment. According to a press release issued by the ministry's media office, Undersecretary Maher Hammad Johan presided over a meeting of the Technical Committee for Sustainable Development, which included a number of ministry directors-general and an elite of experts on the issue.
The meeting discussed the vision of Iraq for sustainable development 2030 in the light of the measures and steps taken by the concerned parties, including the new government program, the five-year development plan 2018-2022, the poverty alleviation strategy 2018-2022 and the other economic and social plans and strategies prepared in cooperation with UNDP United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
He explained that the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning stressed during the meeting that the tracks should be clear and achieve real sustainable development through creating a diversified and sustainable economy and responding to the challenges faced by the country, and support the fragile groups in society through the policy of empowerment.
Pointing out that Iraq has taken important steps in the field of achieving good governance and strengthening administrative decentralization of the transfer of powers of ministries to local governments in the provinces, and according to this measure, Iraq is one of the few countries in the region that worked at the local level and the preparation of development plans at the provincial level. He added that the participants discussed at the meeting the general framework for the vision of sustainable development 2030 and the mechanisms to achieve it according to each of the 17 goals. The statement pointed out that the participants stressed the importance of a media map to introduce the principles and importance of sustainable development and raise the level of awareness among the members of the society, calling on all media to support the government's directions in achieving the goals of sustainable development. The statement said that the meeting discussed the preparations of the Iraqi government to present the voluntary report through the United Nations platform in the fourth quarter of next year 2019 after Iraq received a seat among the countries that will submit their voluntary reports, which includes the steps taken in achieving the goals of sustainable development, At the level of legislation or practical measures taken in all areas, noting that a number of specialized teams have been formed will take over the process of preparing the voluntary report.
