Political insistence on Jarba and Fayyad as candidates for defense and interior

The political blocs insist on their candidates, Faisal al-Jarba, for the defense portfolio and Faleh al-Fayadh for the Interior Ministry, amid objections and disagreements by other blocs.


MP Fadhil Abdul Shanein told Mawazine News that his alliance "remains committed to Faleh as a candidate for the Interior Ministry despite the political differences over this ministry."


He said that "there is an alternative candidate for Fayadh, but not announced so far," noting that "the next session will see a breakthrough on this subject."


He pointed out that the "National Axis and Iyad Allawi's alliance agree on the candidate of the defense portfolio retired pilot pilot Faisal al-Jarba."


Political sources confirmed that the coalition of construction and Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi agreed on the candidate of the Interior Minister Faleh al-Fayadh, but the parliament failed to put the candidate of the Interior portfolio to vote because of the opposition of the reform alliance and caused him to break the quorum at the ministerial cabinet meeting.
