The global financial markets continue to celebrate New Year's Day as they closed their doors to investors on Tuesday on a public holiday. European bourses, including British London and Milan and the French stock market, are due to stop on the first day of the new year. The STOXX 600 index ended last year with losses of more than 13%, marking the biggest annual decline since 2008. In European markets, the German Frankfurt Stock Exchange closed for a second straight day after ending the 2018 session last Friday. NAI ended the longest wave of annual gains in its history, down 18.26% in 2018. For the United States, both the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ close their doors on public holidays for the same reason. On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded the worst annual performance in a contract with 5.6% During the year 2018 and the S & P 500 and NASDAQ declined by 6.2% and 3.9% in the same year. The situation was not very different within the Asian markets, as the Tokyo Stock Exchange of Japan, Hong Kong and Shanghai of China decided Tuesday Japan's Nikkei index posted its first annual decline since 2011 and Shanghai's losses hit 24.6% last year.
