BAGHDAD, Iraq -
After declaring Iraq and confirming its commitment to repay its debts to Kuwait, the latter is poised to establish a free trade zone with Iraq, while convincing Baghdad that the port of Mubarak will not affect Iraqis commercially or by sea.
According to Iraqi media reported today, it is scheduled that the Kuwaiti Minister of Trade Khaled Al-Roudhan, Iraq next March; to sign the agreement on free zone with Iraqi officials.
The free trade zone is scheduled to be set up on the northern border of Kuwait coinciding with the end of work at the Kuwaiti port of Mubarak.
Officials in Kuwait are holding intensive meetings at the level of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Investment, Finance, Trade, Petroleum Corporation, Municipality and Customs to finalize arrangements for the launch of the free zone with Iraq.
This step comes in the context of providing Iraq to facilitate trade with neighboring countries, Iran, Turkey, Jordan and finally Kuwait.
