Halabousi discusses strengthening relations between Iraq and the United States

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohamed Halboussi, discussed with a delegation of the US Congress the strengthening of joint cooperation between Iraq and the United States, as well as the political and security situation in the country and the region.


During his meeting with US Special Envoy to the International Coalition Against Terrorism, James Jeffrey, Halabousi stressed the need to complete the war against an organization that advocates and eradicates terrorism once and for all.


In a press statement to the House of Representatives media department, Al-Halabousi received on Tuesday a delegation from the US Congress headed by MP John Garamendi and in the presence of Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq. In addition to discussing the political and security developments in Iraq and the region, and the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in combating terrorism, eliminating extremist ideology and gang cells,
In order to ensure the return of displaced persons and to provide an environment conducive to women and children and to protect them from extremist ideology and their social protection, the Government of Iraq must be supported to implement its government program;
The meeting dealt with investment in Iraq and providing the environment to attract international companies in general and the US in particular to move forward in the stage of construction and reconstruction in order to ensure the provision of necessary services for citizens and the provision of employment opportunities.
 
Al-Halabousi stressed the necessity of completing the war against an organization that calls for the complete eradication of terrorism and the provision of training and technical support to the security forces, while the American envoy renewed US support for Iraq in the fields of combating terrorism and reconstruction.


A statement from his office, received by al-Sabah, said that al-Halbusi had received Jeffrey in the presence of US Charge d'Affaires in Iraq Joy Hadd, Assistant US Envoy Kevin Greer, Director of the Military Political Section of the US Embassy Liam Wesley and Senior Executive Advisor to Chargé d'Affaires Ali Hassoun. .


The two sides reviewed the latest developments in the political and security situation in Iraq and the region, coordination of bilateral efforts on the issue of fighting the terrorist organization in the border areas with Syria, stressing the necessity of completing the war against terrorism and finalizing it. , As well as US support for stabilization efforts through the return of displaced persons and reconstruction of liberated areas.
