President Barham Saleh called on Wednesday to give the working class attention and care and improve their level of living, stressing the need to find employment opportunities and activate the work of trade unions to defend their rights.

"The President of the Republic Barham Salih congratulated the workers and workers of Iraq and the working class in the world on the occasion of the anniversary of World Labor Day," the presidency said in a statement received by Alsumaria News.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi on Wednesday stressed Iraq's commitment to the international conventions governing the working environment, stressing the granting of workers the required security in retirement and protection against unemployment, treatment and occupational stability.

"The anniversary of the first of May, the International Workers' Day, falls on the Iraqis this year and they are facing a serious challenge and great opportunities for the building and reconstruction of our beloved country after our great victory over terrorism," Abdul Mahdi said in a statement received by Alsumaria News.


"May 1 is an occasion to raise the value of the work without which economic and security stability will not be entrenched," he said, adding that "it is also an important opportunity to promote all efforts to ensure a healthy and legal environment for the private and public sector."

He stressed that "the working environment protects the rights of workers and provides them with the required security in retirement, protection from unemployment, treatment and occupational stability, and the achievement of occupational safety and health conditions, training and continuous development, and a framework that respects their rights and the rights of their families."

"It is no better than the first of May as a global occasion to reaffirm Iraq's commitment to the global charters that regulate the working environment and protect the trade union frameworks in the various tracks of labor activity in order to ensure the sustainable development that we rely on in enhancing the progress of Iraq which has won terrorism.
