(KUNA) - Kuwait has announced the discovery of the remains of Kuwaiti citizens in southern Iraq more than 28 years after the Iraqi invasion, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
The tripartite committee on resolving the issue of prisoners and Kuwait detainees of the International Red Cross said that the remains were discovered in Al-Muthanna district of the southern Iraqi province of Samawah, "possibly belonging to Kuwaiti civilians and prisoners of war."
"This discovery gives hope to the families of the missing more than 28 years after the end of the war," it said in a statement.
The Commission stated that the remains were fully recovered and deposited with the Baghdad Department of Forensic Medicine, with the aim of extracting the genetic map and matching it with the DNA of the families of the missing.
The Amir of Kuwait Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, an official visit to Baghdad, described as historic.
This is the second visit of the Emir of Kuwait to Iraq, where he presided over the 29th of April 2012 the delegation of Kuwait to the Arab summit meeting held in Baghdad.
