Parliamentary law defines the "biggest obstacle" in approving the general budget

Shafaq News / A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee identified, on Thursday, what he described as "the biggest obstacle" to approving the general budget for Iraq for the year 2021.

Deputy Yahya Al-Muhammadi told Shafaq News that "the budget has reached its final stages, despite entering the parliament during the lost time in resolving it."

Al-Muhammadi, who is a deputy from Anbar Province in western Iraq, added that "the biggest obstacle is the Kurdistan Region’s share of the budget, which has not yet been finally decided." It is likely that "the budget will be decided at the end of next week, if an agreement is reached with the representatives of the region." .

And Al-Muhammadi said, "The majority of the blocs have included their proposals within the budget, and this will contribute to achieving the country's interest, in light of the conditions of austerity that we are going through," noting that "there are some small blocs that have different opinions, and this is normal in legislating laws."

Al-Muhammadi stressed, "Everyone worked to reduce the doors of exchange, and focus on ongoing projects, taking into account the treatment of some important files in strategic projects."

Al-Muhammadi concluded his speech, stressing that "considerable sums of money have been included to pay compensation and close the file of displacement and absentees, for the governorates liberated from ISIS."

The corridors of the Iraqi parliament are witnessing negotiations between the political forces to reach an agreement on the 2021 budget, without any progress on the issue of voting on it.
