KUWAIT, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's supreme elections committee said on Sunday that it would be announcing a final voting turnout for the National Assembly elections some 72 hours after the announcement of the winners.
The committee had announced an initial eligible voter turnout average of 39.
7 percent when the results were announced early on Sunday, head of the committee Justice Ahmad Al-Ajeel said in a press statement.
The 72-hour deadline is a grace period granted by the election law aimed at enabling the elections' committee to "evade any mishaps that could undermine turnout counting proceedings." The elections were carried out at the highest levels of transparency and integrity, he added, with civil society organisations invited to attend the proceedings.
He went on to express his delight at Kuwait's Golden Jubilee of the constitution's ratification, hailing the country's free and democratic political system.
He also thanked all the bodies tasked with the preperation and organisation of the event and all the voters who took part in "portraying an honest and meaningful image of the civilised Kuwaiti society". (end) msh.sd KUNA 031953 Dec 12NNNN
