Baghdad (NINA) – The National Iraqi Alliance (NA) announced, "The Religious Authority supports limiting the terms of the President, cabinet members and lawmakers to two terms only.
A statement issued on Thursday, Jan. 17, by Office of the National Alliance's leader, Ibrahim al-Jafari, said that (NIA) held an urgent meeting on Thursday, after receiving the Religious Authority's demands, which centered on the keenness to safeguard the unity of all Iraqis and for the government to care for the people and provide services and security.
It added that the Religious Authority supports limiting the terms of the President, Prime Minister, and Speaker of Parliament to two terms only and it stresses the necessity to solve current political crisis and consider the demonstrators' legitimate demands that do not contradict law and the Constitution.
The statement stressed that the convened accepted all of the Authority's recommendations. It formed a committee move things; it charged Ammar al-Hakeem, leader of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, to do whatever possible to solve the political crisis that is raging the country. / End.
