Baghdad (NINA) – Vice President of Kurdistan Region, Kosert Rassoul, discussed with United States Ambassador to Iraq, Robert Beecroft, the political situation in Iraq.

A statement published on Saturday, May 4, on the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), quoted Rassoul saying that the Kurds always stand on the side of dialogue and protect, as well as implement the Constitution's articles, being the best solution to treat all issues.

Rassoul added, "We want to make Iraq a democratic federal state, to enable all, regardless of the religious, sectarian and ethnic affiliation, live together and having their rights protected."

For his part, Ambassador Beecroft welcomed the steps taken by the Kurds, saying, "The Kurds' return to Baghdad and their participation in Parliament and Cabinet meetings is a rational move. We always support a democratic and peaceful Iraq with all its components participate in governing it."

The two sides stressed the necessity for such meetings and discussion; hoping for all sides to become convinced on the importance of dialogue and harmony, national and political being the best mean to solve all problems and crisis toward building a federal, free and democratic Iraq.

US Consul General to Kurdistan Region, Paul Steven, attended the meeting. / End.
