Maliki meets senior U.N official

Baghdad - Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki discussed, in his official office today Sunday 18, August, with the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, the situation in the region, especially in Syria and Egypt.
A statement of the Prime Minister's Office quoted Feltman as saying he came to brief on the point of view of Iraq in the events of the region, especially the situations in Syria and Egypt.
Maliki confirmed according to the statement: "Iraq supports the efforts to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria and an end to the suffering of the brotherly Syrian people."
Maliki called on the United Nations and the international community and the countries of the region to put pressure on the Syrian parties to sit at the table of dialogue and find a solution, warning of extremism and terrorism support of some of the parties in the region.
On the Palestinian issue, the Prime Minister said it was becoming increasingly complex and the solutions do not succeed unless the Palestinians feel that it is just and equitable solutions.
For his part, Feltman confirmed that he is completely agree with the prime minister's point of view about the situation in Syria. He believed that Iraq must be involved in any international conference on Syria, adding: "The United Nations is seeking for the success of the US-Russian initiative on Syria."
The UN envoy expressed the readiness of the United Nations to support Iraq in its efforts to host Syrian refugees who said: "that their number reached 160 thousand refugees." /

Mutlaq calls on the United Nations to activate its role in Iraq and bear historical responsibility
Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs Saleh al-Mutlaq, the United Nations to activate its role in Iraq and assume its historic responsibility towards faced by the people.
Mutlaq said in a press statement issued after a meeting with Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, said that the United Nations should do its role in Iraq, calling on them to bear historical responsibility towards faced by the Iraqi people from the problems of political, security and economic, in addition to the legacy of the occupation deterioration of the infrastructure and a significant decline in the service file and the worsening financial and administrative corruption in the public sector institutions.
For his part, Feltman, the determination of the United Nations to move forward with its program to help the Iraqi people, and to activate the activity of its mission in Iraq, hoping to reach the Iraqi politicians to consensus lead to calm the political, security, and check thus successes at both the economic and service.
