The U.S. president added, "including that the plan appeared only under a credible threat of U.S. military action, we will keep on our military in the region to keep the pressure on the Assad regime."

Commenting on the talks, U.S. Secretary of State and his Russian counterpart, Obama said, "I have made it clear that it can not constitute a tactic designed to stall."

He stressed that "any agreement must be achieved from the Assad regime's commitment to and Russia their commitments, and this means working to develop the Syrian chemical weapons under international supervision and eventually down to the destruction."

It is worth mentioning that Russia put forward the initiative of the Syrian destruction of chemical weapons after Washington threatened to use force independently of the United Nations in response to an attack with chemical weapons on August 21, Rural Damascus.
