UNITED NATIONS, Sept 20 (KUNA) HH the Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber AlMubarak AlHamad AlSabah will head his country’s delegation to the 67th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly which started on September 18

The delegation also includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled AlHamad AlSabah, Kuwait’s Permanent Delegate to the UN Mansour Ayyad AlUtaibi told KUNA here on Thursday

The high level of delegation shows that Kuwait attaches great importance to” the organization and its noble targets,” Ambassador AlUtaibi said shortly before the arrival of HH Sheikh Jaber and his entourage in New York on Friday, September 21

The State of Kuwait is keen on active participation in the activities of the UN which plays a pivotal role in” solving the problems of its 193 member states

There are transborder problems such as the climate change, terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of” mass destruction that affect all states and require collective effort spearheaded by the UN,” he noted

Kuwait always advocates concerted efforts in the face of such problems, we believe that the UN is the ideal” mechanism for addressing the international challenges,” he went on.

HH the Prime Minister will meet the UN Secretary General Ban Kimoon early next week to discuss a range of issues foremost among which are Kuwait’s relationship to the UN, the security of the Middle East and the Arabian Gulf region, and Iraq’s implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions stemming from the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990

HH Sheikh Jaber and his party are also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with several heads of state and government on economic and commercial ties

Several other meetings will be held on the sidelines of the UNGA session including USGCC strategic forum, and the meetings of the friends of Yemen and the friends of the Syrian people

On September 26, HH the Prime Minister will deliver Kuwait address to the UNGA session, Ambassador Al Utaibi said

The speech will express Kuwait’s concerns over a host of regional issues such as the unrest in the Middle East, the Syrian crisis, the PalestinianIsraeli conflict, the Iranian nuclear program, KuwaitUN relations and Kuwait-Iraq ties

HH the Prime Minister is also expected to set forth Kuwait’s views on global issues such as sustainable development and the combat against poverty and epidemic diseases, the senior diplomat pointed out

Dealing with the KuwaitIraq ties, Ambassador AlUtaibi said they made great strides thanks to the shared desire of the two sides to advance these ties

The leaders of the two neighbors have recently signed a framework deal setting up a joint higher commission to resolve the sticking problems

Kuwait stated its strong desire to help Iraq complete the implementation of the UNSC resolution and get rid of sanction based on Chapter VII of the UN Charter

Kuwait is to decide on a possible replacement to Ambassador Gennady Tarasov, the UN Secretary General’s HighLevel Coordinator for Iraq-Kuwait missing persons and property, before his term in office expires late this year, he added

Ambassador AlUtaibi hailed as positive Iraq’s cooperation in addressing the issue of Kuwaiti missing persons and property, voicing hope that such cooperation will continue until all problems are ironed out
