BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The Supreme Council for the Referendum in Kurdistan (KRG) on Sunday rejected all rumors that the referendum would be postponed, stressing that the process of the Kurdistan independence referendum would be held on schedule.

"The Council held a meeting under the supervision of Massoud Barzani, and discussed political developments visit of the Secretary-General of the Arab League and positions within the Kurdistan region, Iraq and the international community on the referendum."

The statement said that "the referendum will be held on schedule in the September 25, 2017 in the Kurdistan region and Kurdistan areas outside the administration of the region," rejecting "all rumors that the postponement of the referendum."

The council stressed the need to unite the political forces to contribute to the joint media campaign of the referendum process.

Barzani issues a statement to the public on the referendum

The head of the Kurdistan region, "Massoud Barzani," on Sunday, that the reason for taking the decision to hold the referendum independence, due to the tragic experience of the Kurds with Iraqi governments, as well as the goal of keeping the Kurds from wars and problems in the future.

Barzani said in a statement to the public on September 10, 2017, "The Iraqi situation" that "the Kurdish people have a bitter and painful experience with the Iraqi governments during the last hundred years, where the Kurds have been subjected to many attacks and military operations and Including Anfal operations and chemical bombardments.

Barzani said that in order to achieve real peace and stability and to keep the Kurdish people away from wars and problems, they decided to hold the referendum and go to the independence of Kurdistan.

"The referendum is a natural and legitimate right for the people of Kurdistan, and it is not incompatible with the divine and humanistic principles. The implementation of this right does not in any way represent any antagonism to the other national and religious components in the country, it is the beginning of brotherly relations between the two peoples.

The President of the region, the statements hostile to brotherhood and coexistence in the country, has nothing to do with the Kurds and the policy of the region, which is far from the culture of coexistence and tolerance of the people of Kurdistan.

He added that the repressive attitudes of the former regimes against the Kurds will not affect the brotherly relationship between the Kurdish people and the Iraqi people, stressing that the referendum will not affect in any way the continuation of the brotherly relationship between the two peoples, but will increase and strengthen those relations.

"We know that the Iraqi factions and factions were all victims of the dictatorial regimes and were in a single front with the Kurdish people.

Barzani called upon the Kurdish people, in demanding their rights, to preserve the ideals of the Kurds, the culture of brotherhood and the historical coexistence between the national and religious components of the country, adding that the brothers and sisters in Iraq should realize that the Kurds did not cause the division of the country Partnership and peaceful co-existence, but was the cause of repressive regimes and Iraqi governments, as well as the policy of denying the rights of the Kurdish people.
