The process of manual counting enters a new phase for the governorates of central and southern Iraq
A source familiar with the Council of Judges assigned to the Electoral Commission for elections said Thursday that next week will be the introduction of ballot boxes for stations contested in the provinces of central and southern Iraq to the capital Baghdad.
The source told Ashqaf News "early next week will be brought stations that have complaints from six provinces in the south and center for counting and sorting manually in Baghdad, specifically at the Baghdad International Fair," without specifying the numbers
He added that these stations come from the provinces of Basra, Dhi Qar, Wasit, Samawah, Maysan, Qadissiyah.
The Council of Judges assigned to the Independent High Electoral Commission has started counting and manual counting in the province of Kirkuk on July 3, which will include six other provinces successively.
This comes at a time when Iraq entered a legislative vacuum for the first time since the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, with the end of the third session of the parliament waiting for a manual recount of the votes of the legislative elections.
The outgoing parliament passed a manual counting of ballots in the elections, but the Judicial Committee, which currently supervises the process, said it would only count the votes on which the complaints were lodged.
