Abdul Mahdi presents a "proposal" for rapprochement between the legislative and executive powers

On Wednesday, Prime Minister-designate Adel Abdul-Mahdi presented a proposal to Parliament for the purpose of bringing the legislative and executive branches closer together and not obstructing legislation.

Abdul-Mahdi said during a meeting with the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hassan al-Kaabi, in the presence of a number of deputies, "the convergence between the legislative and executive authority," noting that "there are laws initiated by the Council of Ministers and send them to the State Consultative Council, And may return, which hinders the laws. "


He added that "there are laws that have not been implemented until the moment, despite the status in the first session," suggesting that the Prime Minister's headquarters in the House of Representatives and that there is a periodic meeting in parliament with the deputies to coordinate between the executive and legislative authorities.

Abdul-Mahdi stressed on "creating harmony and joint action, starting with the legislation of laws and sit between the Council of Ministers and the relevant committees of the House of Representatives to legislate important laws without hindering them and speeding up their legislation without entering into the cycle of sending and returning."

"If this principle is agreed with the presidency, this is an important step," Abdul Mahdi said.

Abdul-Mahdi arrived at noon today, to the House of Representatives and held a meeting in the Constitutional Hall with the Vice-President of the Council and a number of deputies.

On 2 October 2018, President Barham Salih appointed Adel Abdul Mahdi to form the new government.
