The Federal Court postpones the decision on the case of dissolving Parliament until the thirtieth of this month
17th August, 2022The Federal Court (the highest judicial authority in Iraq) postponed, on Wednesday, the date for deciding on the claim of dissolving Parliament until the 30th of this August.
Last Wednesday (August 10, 2022), al-Sadr had asked the judicial authorities to dissolve the Iraqi parliament within a maximum period of the end of this week, urging at the same time the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, to set a date for early legislative elections in the country.
The political scene in Iraq has been going through a dangerous turn since supporters of the Sadrist movement led by prominent Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr stormed the parliament building in the fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad, and staged a sit-in in protest against Al-Sudani’s nomination for the position of Prime Minister of the next federal government, at first, before the ceiling rose Their demands are to dissolve parliament and hold early elections, after an invitation from their leader al-Sadr.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, had called on the leaders of the political forces for a national meeting at the Government Palace, scheduled to be held today, to start a "serious" dialogue, while calling on all parties to "stop the popular and media escalation."

Re: The Federal Court postpones the decision on the case of dissolving Parliament until the thirtieth of this month
The Iraqi Federal Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of the parliament's dissolution case to the 30th of this month.
A
member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives from the Kurdistan
Democratic Party bloc, Sherwan Al-Dobardani, told Rudaw Media Network,
today, Wednesday (August 17, 2022), that the procedures for considering
the case have not yet been completed.
He
pointed out that "the House of Representatives must be notified, and a
representative of it must be present before the court, to present their
pleadings."
The
Secretary-General of the Sadrist bloc, Nassar al-Rubaie, had filed a
lawsuit against the three presidencies, calling for the dissolution of
the Iraqi parliament. According
to a document, a copy of which was obtained by Rudaw Media Network, the
request was submitted by Nassar al-Rubaie, through the appointment of
lawyers Abdul-Mahdi Hassan Al-Mutairi, Makki Abdul-Wahed Kazem, Falah
Hassan Ismail, Wathiq Qaim Matroud and Zainab Baqer Jassem.
This
came, after Al-Sadr's Minister Salih Muhammad Al-Iraqi called on
supporters of the Sadrist movement to fill out the lawsuit form that the
Sadrist movement will file before the Federal Court to dissolve
Parliament, and hand it over within four days to the committee that will
coordinate with lawyers and notaries.
It
is noteworthy that the Supreme Judicial Council responded in a
statement on (August 14, 2022) to the request of the leader of the
Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to dissolve the Iraqi Parliament,
saying that the Council does not have the authority to dissolve the
Council of Representatives, and its tasks are specified under Article
(3). From the Law of the Supreme Judicial Council No. 45 of 2017, which
in its entirety relates to the administration of the judiciary only and
does not include any authority that allows the judiciary to interfere in
the matters of the legislative or executive authorities.
