The Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, and in the presence of the First Deputy Speaker, Mr. Hassan Al-Kaabi, the Minister of Water Resources, Mr. Mahdi Rashid, and a number of women and members of other parliamentary committees, chaired a meeting of the Finance Committee in the presence of its chairman and all its members, on Saturday 6/2/2021, to discuss a draft draft Federal Budget Law for 2021.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of the Council commended the effort made by the Finance Committee in its discussions of the draft budget and the great pressure it bears in order to produce it in a way that is consistent with the government program and meets the aspirations of the Iraqi street with the expected projects, services, and job opportunities.

His Excellency stated that he is keen to keep the Finance Committee away from political disputes and to create an appropriate atmosphere to complete its work in a purely professional and technical manner, away from courtesies, as well as highlighting important files that concern large segments of the Iraqi people, such as contract entitlements, procedures, lecturers and farmers.

The meeting included the approval of the Finance Committee to cancel the clause withholding employees' salaries and income tax, as well as distributing plots of land to citizens of all classes who had not previously received it.

Then the committee discussed with the Minister of Water Resources Mahdi Rashid the ministry’s financial allocations within the budget and its projects, such as the maintenance of the Mosul Dam, Makhoul Dam, the Samawah Water Project and the Badaa canal in Basra, as well as the means to support the agricultural sector and eliminate the violations of the water network.
