Shafaq News / The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi called, on Monday, to conclude an agreement to end the differences with the Kurdistan Region.
Al-Kazemi said in a speech, "I call for a real national dialogue to reach a final agreement on the relationship between the central government and the Kurdistan Region in a way that preserves the territorial integrity and addresses the problems radically."
There have been pending files between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government for many years, on top of which is the file of managing oil wealth and dividing its revenues, and the disputed areas between the two sides.
Last April, the previous government headed by Adel Abdul Mahdi decided to cut the salaries of state employees in Kurdistan, after it accused the region of not adhering to the agreement to deliver 250,000 barrels of oil per day to the Baghdad-owned SOMO, which was denied by Erbil.
The Al-Kazemi government agreed to release one-month salaries for the region’s employees, and pledged their disbursement on a regular basis, with Baghdad and Erbil reaching an agreement on the oil file and the region’s share of the federal budget.
The Kurdistan Region was a major supporter of Al-Kazemi's assumption of the presidency of the Iraqi government, which may contribute to bridging the gaps between Baghdad and Erbil, and create the atmosphere for reaching agreements.
