Representative economy: a tripartite meeting that may settle the vote on the budget in today's session

Shafaq News / The Parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee confirmed today, Sunday, that the meeting of the Presidency of Parliament, the Kurdish delegation and political forces will decide whether or not to vote on the budget law in today's session.

Committee member Nada Shaker Jawdat told Shafaq News, "The atmosphere at the present time is positive for voting on the Federal Budget Law for 2021, but the last moments may change everything and the vote is postponed on Monday."

He added that "there is pressure from the Iraqi street calling for speeding up the resolution of the disputed points and voting on the budget law, and this embarrasses the political blocs and will drag it to approve the budget in today's session."

Jawdat pointed out, "The Presidency of Parliament will hold a meeting with the Kurdish delegation and political forces before the session, and he is the one who determines the vote on the budget or postponing it to another session."

Regarding the points of contention over the budget law, a member of the Parliamentary Economic Committee explained, "There are two basic points on which they disagree, the first related to Kurdistan Region oil and the other to changing the price of the dollar," stressing that "the existence of any guarantees between the Kurdish delegation and political forces will resolve the dispute and go to vote on the budget." In today's session. "

A party source informed Shafaq News Agency, that the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation arrived in Baghdad yesterday evening, Saturday, to discuss the federal financial budget for the current year.

For months, intensive discussions have been held on the draft fiscal budget law for the current year, but disagreements still exist regarding it, especially the item related to the Kurdistan Region’s share.

Political forces reject the agreement reached by Baghdad and Erbil late last year on the budget, which provides for the delivery of 250 thousand barrels per day of oil and half of the other financial revenues to the federal government in exchange for the region's share of the budget estimated at 12.6 percent.
