Kurdish MP: We accept any share of the budget according to a new census. [Print] [Save]
10/02/2013 10:39:00

BAGHDAD / NINA / The MP, of the Kurdistan Alliance, Adel Abdullah confirmed that, "The Kurdistan region will satisfy with any share of the budget sets according to a new census."

He said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / "The demands of the Kurdistan region on the state budget are legal and constitutional, and those who demand to cut the region's share must depend on a new census," noting: "The only census that depend on currently is the census of 1957 ".

Regarding the delay in approving the budget, Abdullah said: "The delay in approving the budget rests on the parliament and some of the political blocs, since the government send it in November 2012."

He added: "Some political blocs delay approving budget for an electoral propaganda and political paper and the Iraqi people is affected negatively"

The House of Representatives had postponed the vote on the budget more than once for the lack of final agreement, while the Presidency of the Council of Representatives put Monday's session a deadline to vote on the budget.

One of the most important differences on the budget is the claim of some blocs and political figures to reduce the share of the Kurdistan region from 17% to 12%, while the Kurdish blocs insist this on 17%.

It was scheduled to hold general census of the population in October 2010, but it had been postponed, mostly, for political reasons. A new date for the census is not set yet.
