The Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed, today, Tuesday, that obstructing the passage of the draft federal budget law for the fiscal year 2021 is "political" and not "technical", while it indicated working to hold a session tomorrow, Wednesday, to vote on the law.
A member of the committee, Majed Al-Waeli, said in an exclusive interview with the National News Center, "The main reasons for the delay in voting on the budget is the imposition of electoral requests, and the pursuit of electoral gain for certain and different parties from all the political blocs in Parliament."
Al-Waeli added, “Since the beginning of its work on the budget, the Finance Committee has made sure that it is purely technical, not an electoral budget, and that the state budget is not a budget of political blocs, but in recent days this path has diverted, and the search for electoral gain by a certain bloc began. Forcing the other bloc to search for balance with the first bloc, and thus the demands began to increase and the obstacles abound in the way of approving the budget, "stressing that" this is the reason for the president to delay approving the budget. "
He expressed, “I hope that there will be great eagerness on the part of the Presidency of the House of Representatives to hold the session, and to go towards voting on the budget in a technical, not political, manner, and for all deputies to be stripped of the factional tendencies and their presence will be based on their individual personal convictions, as happened in many situations, Thus, the budget will be voted on, even partially, and many articles will be approved, such as what happened with the Federal Court Act.
Regarding the date of the possible session to vote on the budget, Al-Waili said, "It is possible that tomorrow, Wednesday, a vote on the budget will be held, which is what we are following up with the Presidency of the Council of Representatives."
He expressed his "hope that there will be concessions in front of the obstacles facing the budget and that the vote will take place."
