Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Public Municipalities confirmed that the electronic collection automation project reduces water consumption.

The Director-General of the General Directorate of Water, Najm Al-Hayali, said in a statement received by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the ministry continues to implement the electronic collection automation project for the directorates (water, sewage and municipalities), which is a qualitative step in keeping pace with technological development, transforming collection from the paper system to electronic and maximizing imports. The state and the elimination of water scarcity and administrative and financial corruption.

He added that "the goal of the project is to achieve self-sufficiency by providing and securing drinking water for the participating citizens in the future, reducing water losses and rationalizing water consumption, as well as equitable payment of financial dues without errors, reducing corruption, eliminating red tape and saving time."

He added, "A new administration, a project manager and a higher supervisory committee have been formed that will take it upon themselves to organize the terms of the contract with the investing party, in cooperation with the directorates of water, sewage and municipalities in the governorates covered by the first phase system, which are the governorates (Kirkuk, Diyala, Holy Karbala and Najaf), and the second phase will be for the governorates of (Nineveh, Basra, and Muthanna).

He pointed out that "the system has been prepared according to scientific foundations that aim to achieve rapid electronic collection, follow-up to the collectors and identify the areas collected, where smart water meters will be used and readings will be taken based on websites in the billing, through credit cards optionally and under the auspices of the Ministry's Information Center."

He stressed that "the contractual period of the project is (15) years, and the duration of the preparation and installation of measurements for the project is (5) years, during which no less than two and a half million hydrometers will be installed for all the governorates of Iraq, and the completion rate of the project has reached about 30%."
