The United Nations Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) announced the approval of Kuwait to convert the remainder of the amount of compensation owed by Iraq, by the invasion of their lands in 1990, to investments in a number of provinces, including Basra.

The head of the mission, Martin Kobler in a press release on Monday, said that Kuwait has agreed to convert a large part of the compensation to investment in Basra, and a number of other provinces.

The UN Security Council has imposed on Iraq after its invasion of Kuwait, a number of international sanctions under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, including obliging him to pay financial compensation to Kuwait, and the two countries announced recently to resolve their differences on the issue of Iraqi Airways, after signed the Emir of Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmad morning in 23 of the last month Emiri decree approving the final settlement after the establishment of Iraq to pay $ 500 million in compensation final to Kuwait Airways for damages suffered in the invasion.

However, Iraq is still languishing under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, because of issues still pending between the two countries, including the fate of Kuwaiti citizens who were arrested, and brought to Iraq during the invasion, as well as the return of Kuwaiti property, including Archive government of Kuwait, and the question environmental awards and oil.
