The press reports quoted a source in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said yesterday that the Kuwaiti leadership has asked Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to abandon his hardline policies toward the Sunnis and Kurds, in response to opposition to opening up to the Kurdistan Region
The source added that Kuwait refused to inquiries made by the departments official close to Maliki for its efforts to promote rapprochement with political Kurdistan headed by Massoud Barzani, adding that public officials in the office of al-Maliki criticized trends Kuwaiti closer political dialogue with the Kurdish leadership and the opening of official channels, especially with the Kurdistan region, which enjoy by virtue of federal and wide in northern Iraq, without coordination with Baghdad.
And considered an Iraqi governmental that Kuwaiti endeavor attempt to support the Kurdish position in the face of policies Maliki on Iraq's internal level, and that the goal of this rapprochement between Baghdad and Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan province, is to establish a zone of influence of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in order to undermine Iran's growing influence.
