[ltr]Twilight News / Iraq has officially asked the UN Security Council to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Iraq, "UNAMI" for another year, according to relevant Security Council resolutions.
 The Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohammed Ali Hakim - in the Security Council meeting, which was held yesterday to follow up the report of the Secretary-General on UNAMI - "I would like to convey to you the desire of the Government of the Republic of Iraq to extend the mandate of the United Nations Mission for one further year in accordance with the principles adopted in Council resolution No. 1770 of 2007 text and content, and the mission continues to provide advice and assistance, and upon prior request from the Government of the Republic of Iraq. "




Hakim added that "the Iraqi government hopes of UNAMI to provide the necessary logistical requirements to secure a sufficient number of observers to ensure transparency of the parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in the first half of next year."


The Iraqi ambassador spoke about recent developments in the camp of freedom, and said that "Baghdad condemns Matard of the camp has recently target mortar Bakmav of by terrorist militia groups," stressing the protection of the Iraqi government to all residents in the camp and provide humanitarian aid and health.


He welcomed Iraq's permanent representative to the United Nations with the consent of Albania on the resettlement of 270 people from the camp dwellers, and the arrival of the first batch to Albania, also welcomed the offer by the German government to host and resettle another 100 people of the population of the camp.


And on the demonstrations that permeated throughout Iraqi cities, Hakim said "The Iraqi government confirmed that the right to peaceful assembly guaranteed to all Iraqis, and the Government has worked very hard since the first moments to meet the legitimate demands of the demonstrators, and dealt with as positive as approved by the Iraqi constitution."


The United Nations Mission to help Iraq (UNAMI) is an entity that was created on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution No. 1500 on 14 August 2003, the mission has the official mandate to work through the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq.[/ltr]
