The Minister of Planning / the acting Minister of Finance, Prof. Ali Yousef Shukri, searched with a representative World Bank in Iraq, Mary Helen during a meeting in the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning in Baghdad and the reality of the banking sector in Iraq and the mechanics and controls the implementation of the project to restructure banks Iraqi government according to the vision sophisticated scientific help to make these banks keep pace with the significant progress made in the global banking system.
The two sides discussed during the meeting a number of issues related to the banking sector, where the Minister stressed that Iraq needs a good banking system worthy of his reputation and the strength of the economy. He stressed that the presence of a strong banking sector and sophisticated about positively reflected on all the joints , including economic private banks .. Calling for the need to be Iraqi banks with automatic systems allows them to use credit cards.
The Minister said that Iraq seeks to promote and develop the Iraqi banking sector among the mechanics of development is to open new branches of Iraqi banks in a number of brotherly and friendly countries. These efforts have resulted in the opening of the first branch of the Bank of Iraq in Europe and in the Romanian capital Bucharest, followed by open another branch in the United Arab Emirates and efforts are now being made to open a new branch in Latin America in Brazil.
The Minister also reviewed during the meeting the latest developments in the file of Iraq's debt, indicating that significant steps have been achieved in this area. It has been open channels of communication with the seven countries of Iraq and payables were able to persuade these countries to enter into an agreement to settle Pars Club debt. He pointed out that the rest of the debts on Iraq is not large sums could be paid back immediately, but Iraq is obliged to Paris Club agreement with the previous states that have agreed to write off debts.
During the meeting they also discuss the issue of the World Bank loan granted to Iraq of 140 million dollars for the implementation of the irrigation project qualifying for the Ministry of Water Resources Ministry, as well as discuss the details of the state budget for the year 2014 and the contents of the financial allocations for the investment.
To the representative of the World Bank expressed Mary Helen for the World Bank’s desire to strengthen ties of cooperation with Iraq in order to help him keep up with modern technologies in the field of banking. Noting that, it touched the overwhelming response by the Minister in relation to the draft restructuring the Iraqi government banks.
Helen showed that the restructuring of the project would help the Iraqi banking sector that takes significant positive steps that will help private banks, as well as the support of the Iraqi economy by about a year.
