Ban hopes the expansion of relations between Kuwait and Iraq to include economic and cultural fields

The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed hope that the expanding bilateral relations between Kuwait and Iraq to include economic and cultural fields.

Ban also expressed in the periodic report to the Security Council on the United Nations Mission to help Iraq (UNAMI) last night expressed his happiness for the continued improvement in the bilateral relations between the two countries, including the opening of Kuwait consulates in Basra and Erbil.

I hope that the result of this improvement in the bilateral relations to further confidence to become the economic and trade relations and cultural stronger between the two countries.

Also hope that this positive development to improve Iraq's relations with other neighboring countries.

On the security situation in Iraq, Ban expressed concern about the return of the extremism that threatens social cohesion in Iraq and possibly disrupt the ongoing efforts to achieve national reconciliation. 

He added that "the continued deterioration of the security situation in Iraq and attacks by armed terrorist groups almost daily led to the forced displacement on ethnic and sectarian basis.

He said the "terrorist acts in Iraq rose to levels not seen since 2008, where he joined 5,000 Iraqis this year to more than a million Iraqis registered as refugees interns were forced to escape from their residential areas as a result of sectarian conflict in 2006 and 2008.

He stressed the need to promote economic development through job creation and provision of services and the fight against corruption. 

It is scheduled to discuss the report that the Security Council on Monday.
