KTFA:
ChrisC: I am listening to the call now and thinking if they haven't started educating the citizens about the new small notes yet, how long is that going to take? Sometimes intel is wrong and sometimes it comes in and makes you alter your assessment of what you previously received, but I am thinking back to I team (I think I am remembering this right) standing in line to vote back in May and there were billboards of the new currency that they were seeing.
What currency denominations were these? Do the people know they are going to be revalued? Logic would say yes and the second article is just a final statement from the CBI of timing and instructions.
They went to a lot of trouble and put the people through a lot of hardship removing the 1000, 500 and 250 out of the market just so, apparently, the people wouldn't be confused with the new design. Do they really have that big of a problem understanding things?
....
I remember when the new 100 bill came out here. It was a little of a surprise to see it but in a few days it was no big deal. I fully expect this to happen soon.
It is absurd to think Iraq will not have a strong international currency, but it is just making me pause this morning to think of how much leg work they have apparently done for such a little change and what is going to be required for a comparatively HUGE change.
Frank26: WHY? ..................... BECAUSE THIS RD ............... IT MUST NOT FAIL WITHIN THE CITIZENS !!! ................ THE LAST STOP OF THE MR BRINGING FORTH THE RI / RV.
Walkingstick: Unknown, could be a matter of days and or weeks... All, dependent on the Iraqis themselves.. their understanding and acceptance of the currency reform, and their government... The notes, displayed .. currency that is currently in circulation...
Visual aids of their (Financial inclusion) program, a means to draw Iraqis into the banks to open accounts. Yes, the majority are well aware of what's to come, but.. keep in mind... the illiteracy rate, of roughly 45+ % and the people/s residing in rural areas, which is estimated at 30+ % for the female population alone..etc: Plus, roughly 70% (age group) of the population did not exist when Iraq had an internationally accepted currency, lower denominated notes and fils ...
Education, is everything! Agreed, they will once again have a very strong international currency... And, they have done a lot of leg work.. many years, worth.. and, it continues ... Much of, which .. has never been put to print...Regards.....
Hammy14: Chris, I don't think it's a problem with the Iraqi citizens per se, I just think that the CBI has a date set when they plan to release the smalls, along with the new rate, and we just simply haven't gotten there yet. It appears they are slow walking this process to feed the citizens bit by bit to insure understanding, as they stretch the process out leading up to the desired date of release. A prime example of this is well defined in the Turkmenistan model, and Iraq seems to be following that road map very closely, IMO.
