The Canadian Government has made an additional contribution of US $ 2.2 million to the Immediate Stabilization Fund (SFF) of UNDP and funds quick-disbursing projects in areas liberated from terrorist gangs.

"Canada's total contribution so far has risen to US $ 6.3 million," Liz Grande, the UNDP Resident Representative in Iraq, said in a press release today.

"Based on the priorities set by the Government of Iraq and the local authorities, the Immediate Stabilization Fund (SFF) helps to make quick repairs to public infrastructure, provides grants to small enterprises, strengthens the capacities of local authorities, encourages civic engagement and community reconciliation, the public".

"We are accelerating to help stabilize the eastern Mosul and the liberated areas of Nineveh province, as more than 200 high priority projects are being implemented, and we expect more efforts to be made soon." If we add west of Mosul, "There is already widespread damage, and Canada's contribution comes at the right time."

"Canada is proud to support the important work of the Immediate Stabilization Fund to restore basic services to help Iraqi children, women and men return to their homes in newly liberated areas as soon as possible."

The Immediate Stabilization Fund, established in June 2015, operates in the newly liberated areas of Anbar, Salahaddin, Ninewa and Diyala provinces.

More than 500 projects have been completed or are being implemented in 22 locations. Since the beginning of the crisis, more than 1.6 million people have returned home.
