Iraqi Forces Push Into Last IS Pocket in Mosul
Iraqi forces have pushed deeper into the last pocket of Mosul controlled by the self-styled Islamic State terrorist group, as the battle for the city approaches an end after seven months of grueling combat.
IS fighters have now been dislodged from all but a handful of districts in the western half of Mosul, including the Old City, where the group is expected to make its last stand, taking advantage of narrow streets and its dense population, Aljazeera reported.
Brigadier General Yahya Rasoul said on Sunday the area controlled by IS was no more than 9% of west Mosul, which is bisected by River Tigris.
"It's a very small area," he told reporters. "God willing, this is the final phase."
The Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service stormed the Ureibi and Rifaie districts at dawn on Sunday, according to a statement from the Joint Operations Command. At the same time, the army's ninth division and the Interior Ministry's elite Emergency Response Division attacked the IS bastion of 17 Tammouz.
Vastly outnumbered by the forces arrayed against them, IS fighters are fighting back with suicide car bombs and snipers embedded among hundreds of thousands of civilians they are holding hostage.

Purifiers: Iraq: New push to drive ISIS from 4 neighborhoods in Mosul
BAGHDAD — A senior military commander says government forces have launched a new push to drive Islamic State group militants from four neighborhoods in west Mosul.
In a statement Sunday, Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir Rasheed Yar Allah says Iraqi special forces are moving to the al-Eraibi and al-Rifaie neighborhoods, while militarized federal police and regular army forces are fighting ISIS in nearby neighborhoods.
Yar Allah says the forces "have broken through the enemy fortifications" without giving more details.
The operation to retake Mosul was launched in October and the city's east was declared liberated in January. Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake the west the following month.
In recent weeks, U.S.-backed Iraqi troops have slowly closed in on a small cluster of neighborhoods in the city's west.

G7 to Tackle Wealth Divide
Finance ministers and central bank governors of the Group of Seven industrialized countries agreed to make efforts to close economic gaps in their countries during their meeting that ended late Saturday in Bari, Italy, Yonhap reported. The decision was made because failing to address the gap between rich and poor could increase discontent among voters, leading to an unstable political situation as well as negative effects on the world economy.
Each G7 country plans to use fiscal spending and structural reforms to improve the economic gap, but the possibility exists that the United States, which has taken the approach of prioritizing its own interests, could derail concerted action among the G7 countries.
Globalization has rapidly accelerated since the 1990s, causing the gap between rich and poor to continue to widen. The Gini coefficients of G7 nations, a measure of the degree of income gaps, have reached their highest levels since the mid-1980s, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

EDBI Restoring Ties With Foreign Banks
The Export Development Bank of Iran – the country’s Eximbank– has opened 30 accounts in major foreign banks besides having established 120 correspondent relations with major international banks, the bank CEO said.
“Before implementation of the nuclear deal with world powers we did not have any kind of active accounts whatsoever. However, after the nuclear accord, we regained access to SWIFT (international interbank messaging network) and restored a significant number of international correspondent relations that enable Iran to rebuild its export capacity,” Ali Salehabadi was quoted as saying by IBENA.
The EDBI offers foreign exchange loans in euros to raw material importers at 6% in the form of working capital loans as well as other services like opening lines of credit and issuing guarantees.
“Our priority is not profitability but assisting export and import.”
Salehabadi had earlier announced that his bank has resumed ties with 20 European, 17 Asian and four African countries, of which Turkey, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Austria, India, South Korea, Japan and China are the notable.
He asked Iranian exporters to introduce credible banks they work with in other countries to EDBI for establishing contact with them and providing exporters credit lines through those banks.
The government has provided the bank enough resources to finance exporters of domestic goods at lower rates.
EDBI was established as a policy bank, owned by the government, and provides financial and other banking services to exporters and investors. The bank also is the Iranian representative for the Islamic Development Bank.

Cyberattacks Expected To Spread Monday As Europol Fears Computer Systems Simply Won't Start
Update: confirming our earlier report that Monday could get ugly for global computer system, the WSJ writes on Sunday afternoon that Cybersecurity experts are expecting another wave of computer-system attacks that encrypt files and demand ransom to unlock them on Monday, as companies and government agencies are seeking to restore normal operations and figure out the roots of the attack.
The attacks, which made over 200,000 victims in at least 150 countries, affect only computers running Microsoft Corp.’s Windows that haven’t installed the security patch that the company released in March, or the emergency patch it released for older Windows systems over the weekend. The problem is that it can take organizations, especially large ones, a long time to install these patches.
“I think there’s going to be a lot of infections Monday morning,” said Ofer Israeli, chief executive of Tel Aviv-based cybersecurity firm Illusive Networks.
